When I saw that White Fence has a new album, …Is Growing Faith, dropping on Jan. 10, 2011 on Woodsist, I figured I had to check it out. After all, Jeremy Earl’s Woodsist is responsible for Woods (duh), Real Estate and Wavves among others. The label seems to have a sweet eye for talent and has really thrust some good bands into the limelight (relatively speaking).
“Lillian (Won’t You Play Drums?)” sticks to the fuzzed out nature of Woodsist bands with a retro feel that can especially be felt in the chorus. The vocals seems distant and floating through reverb, while the band shows an ability to change their rhythm around to keep the listener going. At a short 2:25, I’ve already listened to this track about five times in the short period since I found it.
With the weather getting colder, bands like Woods are becoming better and better to listen to. Songs of Shame was one of my December albums last year, and “Lillian” feels perfect for November, and I’m sure …Is Growing Faith will be great for January.
