Livid Kids put together simple summery pop songs bringing back memories of high school and just relaxing. On “Arcade,” the Indiana duo presents some slack vocals reminiscent of Beat Happening or Descendents, laid-back and saying, “Hey, we’re in high school, this is what we’re doing.” This music is refreshing, as it’s not buried under eighteen layers of reverb, like we’re accustomed to from these newer releases. There’s some blink-182 and other pop punk influence, but it’s not overwhelming. The tempo changes at the choruses demonstrate great sophistication, while the short tracks allow for maximum listening. The percussion takes center stage on the tracks and pushes the music forward. If you’re tired of drowning in reverb and want some ’80s punk nostalgia, Livid Kids provides a perfect break.
