Stream: Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s, “Claws Off”

As a music director for a college radio station, we get far too many CD’s to listen to every week. Thus, each week I will comment on my favorite song and favorite album of the week!

Track for the week of 9/13: Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s, “Claws Off”

Sometimes a song just kicks your ass when your back is turned. This weekend Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s did just that, and at perfect timing.. Lead singer Richard Edwards clearly had his heart ripped out when he wrote this as he describes the immediate aftermath of a breakup. He sings “If you wanna go, get lost/If you’re gonna stay, then shut up.” It’s more angry then melancholy that’s for sure, and clearly wanting nothing to do with the person he’s in front of. The song builds intensity until he tells us all what he really wants to say in his own head. The tune is folk-rock all the way with a lap steel accentuating the wall of electric guitars, and howling background vocals. Click here to give this track a listen.

  1. I received my vinyl package in the mail this week and can confidently say that Buzzard is killer rock album. It’s raw, a bit sloppy, but in a controlled matter. Very methodical. They did a very good thing here, and the album has come out at a perfect time. I’m so fucking tired of the summer chill wave scene already.
